approach
Brad views life coaching as supporting individuals in the realization
of their full potentials. How? By working together as a team,
Brad and his clients courageously and truthfully examine what
obstacles are in the way; then they move them, move through them,
or move around them, depending upon what those obstacles are.
Some common obstacles are false beliefs (mental), holding on to
old wounds (emotional), making unhealthy diet/exercise choices
(physical), and hopelessness (spiritual).
In
the spring of 1984 Brad began his life coach work as a peer coach,
leader and guide when he created and presented his first workshop
to a group of fellow college undergraduates at the lovely oceanside
retreat center of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Carmel,
California. His topic was the importance of deepening spiritual
self-knowledge. After the workshop Brad maintained an informal
peer coaching relationship with several of the participants, some
of whom were on his tennis team. Back then the idea of coaching
was pretty much limited to the domain of athletics, which Brad
participated in heartily as a member of his college tennis team
and as a karate practitioner.

Some
years later, Brad returned to his alma mater (NDNU) for graduate
school. There he earned his first professional certification—a
multiple subject teaching credential, levels K-12/adult education.
For 10 years in the revered college town of Palo Alto, California,
Brad served as an elementary school teacher. What does this have
to do with coaching? Everything! Brad worked for several hours
each day with students with the explicit intention of guiding
and supporting them all to realize their full potentials (the
heart of life coaching). Brad’s deep desire was that every
student would thrive. Every day was a full day of the practice
of coaching 28 youngsters at a time. It was challenging for sure,
and it was loads of fun as well; plus, it turned out to be preparation
for Brad’s next profession as a counseling psychologist—where
he could focus his energy on working with individual adults to
complement his extensive experience in working with children of
all ages in group settings.
Brad’s
personal and professional credentials include his work with his
peers, students and clients for the past 27 years, his 30+ years
of adult life experience, and his formal schooling (B.A. in Behavioral
Science, California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, M.A.
in Counseling Psychology, Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling in process).
He has enthusiastically sought training in the three fields that
have been his passion since he was a boy: psychology, education,
and spirituality. Travel is another great passion of Brad’s.
He has visited 32 different countries all over the world and has
been to all 50 states. Brad loves all types of people and enjoys
meeting them on their home turf—an approach he carries over
into his work as a life coach, counselor and spiritual guide.
As
you can clearly see, Brad’s approach to life coaching is
integrative and vast in scope. He understands his clients from
many different angles, which distinguishes him from among other
life coaches who focus upon using cognitive techniques and mental
exercises. Brad considers people to be more than talking heads
who think thoughts; thus, he attracts clients who want to go deeper—those
clients who are willing to make a serious commitment to living
a full and balanced life with attention paid to the integration
of body, mind, heart, feelings and spirit. Brad enjoys working
with his clients to empower and support them as they implement
long-lasting life changes rather than doing short-term solutions
to “problems.”

testimonials
I have attended your yin yoga class since the second session and
looked forward to it every week since. I wanted to let you know
how thankful I've been for your class and that I will miss it
greatly since I am moving. Being introduced to yin yoga was a
pleasure and an adventure for me and I will definitely continue
to practice. Your wisdom and presence was a true blessing. I was
enlightened by your words and calmed by the peace and compassion
you brought to the group every week. There are many things you
said and shared that I will carry with me. It is always an amazing
experience to be in the midst of such an optimistic and serene
atmosphere. Thank you for all of these things. - Melissa,
Yin yoga student
This
past December (2010) I had the honor to attend Thomas's Sivananda
class at the local YMCA. For my A-type personality, strong Ashtanga/Vinyasa
inclination, go-go-go mentality, this was exactly what I needed.
Class- unfortunately- was only 1 hour, and seriously, I could
have used a full hour and a half! I enjoyed the pranayama, sitting
reflectively in a quiet somewhat dark room, and I loved the seamless
integration of philosophy and anatomy tidbits into the session.
Brad’s gentle reminders, his concise cues and beautiful
humor make his Sivananda class truly special. -Kristin (Ashtanga
yoga teacher), Sivananda yoga student
Brad
has a gentle and gracious soul. His teaching is spacious and calming.
I knew from the minute I met him that I would enjoy him as a teacher.
He has been an asset to the Duluth Minnesota teaching community
and I am sorry to see him go. -Sara (Restorative yoga teacher),
Yin yoga student
I
first met Brad when I was a new Bikram student. Brad had been
practicing for years and before each class I wanted to stand next
to him, his aura and ability to be contained drew me into his
orbit. As time went on, I got to know him as a practitioner, as
a teacher and I am proud to say as a friend.
Brad’s
classes were always full. He was a big draw at our studio. He
is a natural teacher, knowing just when to be helpful and when
to leave the person alone until they were ready to hear what he
had to say. He never took himself too seriously and there was
always a joyous but serious atmosphere in his classes. Brad understood
the practice he was teaching and was able to help students reach
their potential with just a small correction.
I
looked forward to his classes, and loved his teaching style and
was sad when he left northern California. Joy, Bikram yoga student
Brad
is a natural teacher who guides with wisdom, patience and knowing.
He taps into a wealth of knowledge and from his deep spiritual
beliefs. Brad worked with me and my core issues with loving guidance.
-Elijah Michael John, spiritual guidance client
I
started my psychotherapy sessions with Brad when I was in the
midst of dealing with several crises in my life. I had just sold
and moved out of our family home, and was dealing with my 18 yr-old
son who was doing poorly in his senior year in high school, and
also caring for my aging 93 yr old mother, who no longer could
live on her own.
My
sessions with Brad were like no other experiences I had before.
Up until then, I had seen a succession of traditional talk-therapists
who left me feeling that I had wasted both my time and money.
I had come to Brad with complete trust in his approach to psychotherapy
which incorporates mind, body, spirit and emotion in the healing
process. We started each session with a few minutes of meditation,
which helped to center me, and connect us in our consciousness.
Working with Brad helped me with the strength, wisdom and healing
I needed to work through the difficulties I was facing.
Words
can’t truly do justice to the enormous gift he gave me as
a healer. I’m deeply grateful for his insight, wisdom, compassion,
humor, and friendship. -Irene, counseling client
Brad Nitschneider is a sincere and warm-hearted individual that
truly cares about helping people break through barriers and grow
beyond their expectations. As a workshop leader, he's wonderful
at helping those he works with to feel comfortable about unfolding
their issues and embracing solutions with a fresh perspective.
Brad uses a healthy mix of intuitive guidance, intelligent probing,
and organized design to create a fun and safe environment for
others to learn about themselves while getting in touch with deep
parts inside that may have been lost, forgotten, dormant, or passed
over. Brad's method involves a great deal of participation also,
as he calls those he works with to come to the plate prepared
to do their own inner work. However, Brad's supportive nature
ensures that everyone is able to go as far as they'll let themselves
go. -Nathaniel, workshop participant

Dear
Mr. N. (The Best Teacher),I'm on my way home now from
Lake Powell. My mom said I should write you a letter about...I
jumped off a cliff 35 ft. high! And I have you to thank. You taught
me to believe in myself and to be more tough! Thanks a bunch!
You're amazing! -Becky, 4th grade student
When
I think of this year I think of contrasts—Monet to Zen gardens,
rock to Bach, yin and yang. You have provided such a rich stimulating
environment. Cameron will remember you as one of his great teachers.
We’re both sad to see this year end. But, to the future.
He will take some of what you’ve taught and be a better
person and student. -Anne, parent of 4th grade student
